WTS Member Highlight : Planning your Adventures

Writer: Willow Tree StudiosWillow Tree Studios

One of the things we talk about with our health is that it is not all about fitness. It is also about trying new things and having adventures. Jane started the ball rolling a year ago making plans to take a vacation with her family. In December, Jane experienced her long awaited Christmas in Yellowstone. She had three things on her Yellowstone bucket list. One was to hear a wolf howl, never expecting the abundance of that wish fulfilled. She recounts the thrill of seeing 11 members of a large wolf pack stalking a large herd of buffalo. “What an amazing sight,” Jane recalls, “to watch these large predators stalk and then switch to playing like very big puppies in the fresh snow!” But her biggest thrill was when one of the pack started howling one, long sustained howl to the sky followed by a beautiful, spine-tingling chorus of howls. Bucket list, indeed!

These wolves were part of a larger pack called the Waipiti Lake pack. There are some interesting You Tube videos posted about them.

Connecting with family and friends along with travel are total brain boosters.  Traveling can boost our mood and resilience  through dealing with the bumps in the road that often are tough in the moment but lead to a great story later. Travel can enhance our cognitive function through new experiences promoting physical activity, fostering social connections and expanding our awareness of the world.
